About Me
Embracing Art Can Help You Relax and Unwind

I have always had a "type-A" personality. I work very hard and I often overload my schedule with obligations. While I love my career, it is very stressful. A few years ago, I developed insomnia that my doctor told me was likely due to my high-stress life. I knew I had to find a way to relax, but I was unsure how to do it. I didn't want to take pills or anything. I decided to re-visit an old passion of mine, which is painting. I loved to paint in art class in high school, but I hadn't painted since! I bought the supplies I needed and from the moment my paintbrush touched the canvas, I was in love with art again. Art has helped my life so much I want to inspire others to embrace art as therapy. I plan to post many art tips on my new blog!

Tips For Planning Outdoor Custom Tile Murals

Jessica Webb

If you have decided that you would like to create some artwork to be displayed permanently outside, custom tile murals can be a great way to do just that. Of course, there are some things you are going to want to take into consideration when planning this art project in order to get the best possible results.

Be Careful Picking The Type Of Tiles

It is pretty important to make sure that you are selecting the ideal tiles to be used outside. This is especially important if you live in an area where there is a wide range of temperatures over the course of the year. Areas that get extra cold temperatures are more prone to having outdoor tile break. Therefore, you will want to purchase tiles that are advertised to have good frost resistance. Also, if you plan on using the tiles for an outdoor floor mural, you will want them to be slip resistant as well.

Lay Them Out Beforehand

It would be a good idea to start with a sketch of your design on a tablet or your phone. Once you have collected all of the different tiles, you will want to put them in place and mark where certain aspects of your mural design will go. Step back and take a look at your design from afar. You can even get a small drone to fly over the mural space and take pictures from various angles.

Make Sure You Have Permission

You will not need permission if you are planning on creating this outdoor tile mural on your own property. If you would like to contribute some art to a local park, you will need to get permission. You need to present a rough draft of your tile mural and be able to provide the measurement of the space that you will be working in. This information is needed in order to get a quick decision from the town or city authority.

Plan For The Unexpected

You do not want to go into this project with just enough tiles. If you miscalculated and you need more, you will have to waste time going back to the store. Then, there is always the chance that they have sold out of what you need. Therefore, you will want to purchase all that you need and then a little more on top of that. You could always return any extra tiles you do not end up using, so hold on to your receipt.

With those few tips in mind, you should find the planning part of your outdoor tile mural to be easy. For more information on outdoor custom tile murals, contact a professional near you.
