Embracing Art Can Help You Relax and Unwind

I have always had a "type-A" personality. I work very hard and I often overload my schedule with obligations. While I love my career, it is very stressful. A few years ago, I developed insomnia that my doctor told me was likely due to my high-stress life. I knew I had to find a way to relax, but I was unsure how to do it. I didn't want to take pills or anything. I decided to re-visit an old passion of mine, which is painting. I loved to paint in art class in high school, but I hadn't painted since! I bought the supplies I needed and from the moment my paintbrush touched the canvas, I was in love with art again. Art has helped my life so much I want to inspire others to embrace art as therapy. I plan to post many art tips on my new blog!

Native American Art Pieces Ideal For Bookshelves

Jessica Webb

Native American art pieces often include authentic designs that were made generations ago. The art pieces were often passed down through generations or discovered through various digs. Some art pieces have also been donated by Native American tribes to help raise money and support current generations.

As you bid and browse at an online American Indian art auction, you will find wall paintings, tapestries, and large statues. If you have a bookshelf with open spaces, then you can find a lot of smaller pieces ideal for a bookshelf. Check out some of the options to seek when you bid online at various auctions.

Native American Masks

Used for rituals, hunting, and decor, authentic Native American masks include a wide range of details and features. The striking designs can become a key element on your bookshelves. For example, you can have a row of books and anchor the books with a mask design.

Ideally, you want to purchase a stand that can hold the mask because most masks will not stand on their own. You could purchase a mannequin head to place the mask on as well. For a more aesthetic look, you could purchase two masks and place one mask on each end of a bookshelf row.

Native American Tools

Before machines and manufacturing plants made all of our tools, Native Americans made theirs out of carved stones. The impressive pieces are now pieces of art that capture a place in time and showcase the inventiveness tribal members have had for several generations.

The tools often come small enough to hold in a hand and can fit on a bookshelf well. You could purchase a set of tools and put one tool on each shelf. For example, you may have a bookshelf with four rows and you can bid on four tools to place on each of the shelves.

Wooden Carved Boxes

Carved and etched Native American boxes often featured beautiful artwork, designs, and patterns. The boxes used to have practical use on tribal lands and can become a decorative part of your bookshelf at home. The boxes can sit nicely on the shelf. If made of a thick wood like bentwood, then you could even use two boxes as bookends for your shelf.

When you browse online auctions, look for the complete measurement of the boxes to ensure they will fit between the shelves of your bookcase. When you win an online auction, you can transform the bookcases you own to feature pieces of history and detailed artwork.
